Celebrating Robert Burns

Robert Burns was born in Alloway on 25th January 1759. Every January on his birthday people all round the world celebrate by having a Burns Supper and reciting his poetry and singing his songs.
We are having an Assembly and our class will be reading two of his poems in dialect.

AULD LANG SYNE

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie’s a hand o’ thine,
And we’ll take a right guid willie-waught
For auld lang syne!

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

Our Assembly went really well, Lots of people said they enjoyed it. There was Highland dancing and fiddle music as well as our poetry and singing. Look in the comments below to see what we thought about our Burns Assembly.

On Monday we had our Robbie Burns assembly. We talked infront of the school and before the we did our part in the assembly the JRSO's (Junior,Road, Safety,Officers) talked about Road safety and how you need to wear a fluorescent vests and how bright they can be they also asked how many people wore their vests to school. To start the actual Burns assembly we told the school when he was born and what he did for a living and how he lived when he was younger and also about his family. Me and Jennifer presented the activities. The first thing was Tae a Mouse (the poem) and then Michaela, Grace , Hannah and Aria played Gairsay on their Fiddles. After that We spoke the poem address to a Haggis Afterwards Jennifer introduced Madison doing her highland dancing. Madison did the Highland Fling and The Sword Dance. To finish off we sung Auld Lang Syne and on the last two lines the whole school joined in and held hands. I hope everyone enjoyed it and im looking forward to another assembly like this one. Sofia
