Viking Bread

Before we move on to a new topic with Ms Mackay time to make some Viking bread. We used wholemeal flour and spelt flour, water, butter and salt. It tasted fine when it was freshly baked. You can cook this unleavened bread (made without yeast) in the oven or on a pan. Would the Vikings have recognised our bread? Did it taste authentic?
We can't be sure but it was good fun to make and eat.

Thank you Mrs Thompson.

  1. I saw the tray of bread when I met the cookery group in the corridor when I was at school helping make bags, the bread didn't look very tasty? I bet it tasted plain compared to the different types of bread we get nowadays? I wonder which one you all preferred? Caroline(Laura's mum)

  2. The Viking bread was really fun to make and easy at the same time. I didn't know that there was a type of flour called spelt flour.

  3. It was interesting hearing about this bread being made. I must say I enjoyed the taste of a bit Cameron took home with him. Nickie
